The largest subset of novels to utilize the Smithsonian are the murder mysteries. The first novel we have found that portrayed the Smithsonian was Mark Twain's 1869 Innocents Abroad, and we find here the caricature that will soon give the United States National Museum the nickname, "The Nation's Attic." Several interesting works of historical fiction incorporate the Smithsonian. References to the Smithsonian appeared in biographical novels, satires, murder mysteries and adventures, ranging from a few words to complete novels set at the Smithsonian. The Smithsonian and its staff began to appear in fiction writing shortly after it was founded, reflecting popular ideas of what this new institution was. ![]()

The film, which is basically a serious drama, turns out to be something of a cynical human comedy, due to "ridiculousness" of all of it's characters and the way the story is told by film's director - John Huston. Army Major in an isolated military fort somewhere in the south, who gradually discovers his homosexuality and Liz Taylor, simply great here in the role of his cheating wife. Carson McCullers (1917-1967) was the author of numerous works of fiction and nonfiction, including The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, The Member of the Wedding, Reflections in a Golden Eye, and Clock Without Hands. What we have here is a good drama whose story is based on a book by Carson McCullers, featuring superb performances from Marlon Brando who plays a U.S. While generally the later is accepted as his masterpiece "Reflections in a Golden Eye" is misunderstood as Huston's "misfire", as a "flop", an opinion with which I tend to disagree. When the reader finally understands how Stillson plays into Johnny's still isn't straightforward and it caused confusion for me for the last part of the book. All the while, Johnny has already experienced things that could serve as the plot of two or three other separate books. ![]() The book jumps between Johnny Smith and Greg Stillson (with the majority of the book being about Johnny), but the Stillson pieces seem random until he and Johnny finally connect in the last third of the book. I know it isn't one of King's gory horror novels, it's more a supernatural thriller - but I still was not compelled by any of the characters or what they go through. I also found the story itself to be a little boring. ![]() So, I think better narration could have served the story better. He moved randomly from a whisper to a forceful voice. There didn't seem to be any intentionality in any of his narration. Some large plot points were kind of predictable to me but not really in a bad way. James Dashner, bestselling author of The Maze RunnerFrom Dan Wells, author of the New York Times. She sounded so much like my ex-girlfriend from LA at times it was scary. Buy a used copy of Bluescreen book by Dan Wells. The main character is so well done that i swear Dan must have gone to live with a Mexican-American family for a few months for research. I was surprised that he already had a new series in the works and thought it would be rushed. ![]() There were different cards laid out on the table Each had different characters that I didn’t recognize. The first I heard about Bluescreen was from Dan, himself telling me to pick a card. Plus he was hilarious on writing excuses. The really amazing thing to me was how he could tell the story of a young sociopath that doesn’t want to hurt anyone, and then about a girl trying to save the last few pockets of humans alive and do them both so well. ![]() Again I was amazed and loved that series.
